OUR AGRI TOURISM PROJECT

OUR FUTURE PLANS

Acquiring 100 plus acre farmsite lends it's self well to the burgeoning Agritourism  industry developing this property in addition to the aforementioned enterprises will serve to bring much needed rural jobs to the community and the Kansas City  Area.   Camp CARVER will also use the grounds to tribute,  John F. Drew II, the first African American United States Marshall from the state of Kansas.  Drew a saddle and harness maker,  born in Missouri was also a renowned singer and civil rights pioneer.  His memorabilia, photographs and records will also be prominently featured to make this project a worthy historical Agri- tourist attraction. A yearly  FARMICON   live music and Food festival will be planned that will feature the goods and services of Camp CARVER, Local and Regional producers of value added products,    Children and adults will be encouraged to dress up in the costume of their favorite farm animal or period Western Dress. Live entertainment, vendors and food will be provided in this festival like atmosphere that will feature horseback rides, Bufflao Watching, Buffalo Products, Honey products, Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler,   custom designed electric horse back rides and carnival games. Partnering with the  Gower, Trimble, Lathrop and Buchannan  chamber of commerce will highlight the area bringing in tourism dollars  and provide jobs to the community at large.

Organic Peach Production

Camp CARVER is currently the owner of 300 Organic Peach Tree saplings donated by our farm mentor Joe Jennings of J-14 Agricultural Enterprises.  These trees will be planted in sub-plots on the 100 plus acre farm and the peaches will be Harvested for value added products as well as a U-Pick peach operation.

Through collaborative arrangements Camp C.A.R.V.E.R’s resources and enterprises include:

  1. Camp C.A.R.V.E.R. has also been blessed to own and operate a fleet of vehicles used to transport equipment, supplies, produce and several buses that can transport students, farmers and growers to conferences and seminars.  In 2013 Camp C.A.R.V.E.R. also acquired a retired firetruck that features and onboard 600 gallon tank, an onboard generator, and a Barton American 1500 GPM pump.  The vehicle also features 2000 feet of hoses and several garden water spigots. This donated vehicle which was destined for the junk yard has been restored and given a new assignment as a supplemental irrigation tool in response to the devastating drought of 2012.  Currently local limited resource farmers/gardeners have to depend on sporadic rains or rely on the highest   priced water access in the county from the local privately owned utility company.   The firetruck is currently being equipped to carry an additional 1000 gallons of water and will also be used on a  weekly or monthly “pay per spray” basis to provide much need water to local farmers, gardeners and orchardists.   We are in the need of a compact utility tractor with a bucket and  a zero turning radius lawn mower.  We currently use several Gravely two wheel tractors with additional attachments for tilling, plowing and snow pushing.

Assets also include a working 1,500 capacity egg incubator that was recycled and refashioned from a discarded pizza oven donated by a local chef/ restaurateur and long  time supporter.

A small scale rabbitry was started with the donation of 18 Shoreline Stainless steel small animal cages from the University of Missouri Kansas City. The rabbittry is being relocated from the farm to the city.  This rabbitry is capable of producing several hundred pounds of cold composted  rabbit manure known to gardeners as “Black Gold”.  We have successfully sold the excess to local farmers and gardeners    Ö                                                                                                            under the Brand name Knacky Doodle at a comparable rate.

                                          5-6lbs           $15.00

                                          13-14 lbs      $30.00

This year we are changing our focus to California meat rabbits which will be processed and

packaged for sale in the aforementioned process kitchen on alternate days for retail sales.
